ARCHDIOCESE OF KADUNA CHILD AND VULNERABLE ADULT SAFEGUARDING

OUR MISSION:

  • In the light of gospel principles, we are dedicated to insure the safety of children, young people and vulnerable adults who have been entrusted to our care in our parishes, schools, hospitals, and other church institutions.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

  1. To prevent sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults.
  2. To respond to any incidents of child or vulnerable adult sexual abuse.

We pursue this mission in these ways:

  1. Creating awareness and offering safeguarding training to different target groups: Priests, Rev. Brothers, Rev. Sisters, employees and volunteers who work with children and young people as part of their ministry within the Archdiocese.
  2. Providing appropriate training to parents, youth, and vulnerable adults in recognizing and reporting sexual abuse to appropriate Church authorities.
  3. Holding all members of the clergy, Rev. Brothers, Rev. Sisters, employees and volunteers who work with children and young people to Christ-centered and professional codes of conduct.

ARCHDIOCESAN CHILD AND VULNERABLE ADULT COMMITTEE:

The committee is headed by the Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Daniel Kyom with the following as members: Rev. Fr. Mark Monaghan SMA, Rev. Sister Rita Schwarzenberger OP, Rev. Fr. Christian Emmanuel Okewu.

PROTOCOL FOR REPORTING AN ABUSE:

To report an abuse by priest, deacon, Rev. Brother, Rev. Sister, employee or volunteer of the Archdiocese of Kaduna, kindly:

NOTE:

  1. Aware of the sensitive nature of a complaint of sexual abuse for both the person bringing the complaint and for the accused priest, deacon, Rev. Brother, Rev. Sister, employee or volunteer, allegations cannot be received under condition of anonymity. However, the Archdiocese is committed to keeping the process confidential.
  2. The civil and canonical rights of all involved will be respected. Where necessary, civil action can be initiated.
